We are building a private library for homeschoolers and community members, with a collection of classic books, historical reference materials, and homeschool curriculum.
Become a Member
If you would like to become a Patron of our library, please email Becky to set up your membership! Our annual fee for a family/household membership is $100/year. Individual membership is $60/year. Or, consider securing our library for years to come with a lifetime Membership or endowment!
The Books
Our library could be considered a Christian library. Our staff and volunteers are all Christians (click here to see our Statement of Faith), and almost all of the families who use the library are as well, however, it is not required of members.
We understand that there are various expectations of families looking for a Christian library. Many are looking for a collection of well-written living books in all subjects and genres. We have a lot of books like that. A few families might desire an exclusively “Christian” collection where the books only talk about Christian topics or people, are written by Christian authors, or exhibit wholesome character traits. We have many books like that but our collection is not exclusively that.
We are very careful not to carry books that are morally objectionable, yet we do have books that deal with heavier subjects, like war and the hardships of war, and adventure fantasy type books that have magic like Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Harry Potter. We also have books on controversial issues and titles that might be “banned” from other libraries…
In the end, each parent is responsible to decide what is appropriate for his/her children in order to preserve their innocence in the way it is defined for that particular family.
Children are welcome to browse the shelves with adult supervision, and parents are encouraged to take an active role in determining what titles are appropriate for taking home.
Our Space

Our Needs
Reading Room Decór
Do you have a gently used comfy couch, or floor lamp, or coffee table to make our space welcoming to guests?
Volunteers
Once the library is organized, we will host library hours one or two weekdays each week. The exact timing of our open hours will depend on volunteer availability – can you help!?
Books, books and more books!
Of course we hope to continue to grow our collection of books and other homeschool resources – please consider donating curriculum, math manipulatives, microscopes, dissection kits… We want to make these useful tools available to families long into the future. Do you have anything you think we could use?
Send us an email at director@highlandhallva.org and we’ll coordinate your donation!!
We have our Storage & Display Space!
August 2025 Update: All the books are in! We still plan to catalog them with the Dewey Decimal System, so currently the books are shelved by theme/topic. Everything we have is in our online database, so if you are looking for something specific check it out there first!
July 2025 Update: We have bookshelves!!!
March 2025 Update: Unfortunately, we are still in need of adequate shelving for our collection! Our friends at the Kerrs Creek Country Market have set up a link to help us collect donations so we can purchase shelving asap. Please consider giving a gift of any size as we work towards our goal.

January 2025 Update: We have moved in to our new space! We are slowly getting the library ready for guests, and hope to have bookshelves put up, our collection catalogued, and membership details finalized in February! If you can help with shelving or cataloguing, please email Becky and sign up to help! director@highlandhallva.org Scroll down to sign up for our email list and follow us on Instagram so you don’t miss anything!
September 2024 Update: We have found a home for our library! Please join us in prayer for a beneficial rental agreement and a quick move-in. We are still in need of shelving to store and share hundreds of books! Are you available to help build our library shelves?
Lending Libraries in the News
The World and Everything In It Podcast recently produced a 3-part series about private libraries. Read or listen to the stories here:
And this story, released in the fall of 2023, was the beginning of it all for us. Checking out church libraries, also from World News Group.
